Cities With Good Music Scenes

Livability.com has published a list of the Top 10 cities with the Best Music Scenes Outside of Nashville, NYC and LA.  Some are what we would expect, but a few were a little surprising.

Here are the Top 5. We’ll do the next five tomorrow.

#1 on the list is Athens, Georgia.  You may not have heard of Athens, but you’ve probably heard of some of the musical groups who have come from there, including The 5-52s, R.E.M., and the Drive-By-Truckers.

#2 is Minneapolis, Minnesota.  There are lots of venues for live music and other performing arts here.  The Replacements, Prince and Husker Du are all from Minneapolis.

#3 is Portland, Oregon.  Top venues in Portland include the Aladdin and Roseland theaters.

#4 is Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  This college town is a great place to enjoy live music.

and #5 is Omaha, Nebraska.  Omaha has a rich history in jazz, blues, and rock and roll, plus a nice variety of places in which to enjoy live performances.
