Salt Lake City’s New Eccles Theater

When the new George S. and Dolores Eccles Theater opens this fall, it will bring two new performance spaces to downtown Salt Lake City. The Delta Performance hall is the big space, with a seating capacity for 2,500. The smaller space is a 150 seat multi-use black box venue.

The theater’s design is fairly unique in that it has been built to merge with an adjacent office tower, maximizing use of valuable downtown real estate. The two buildings will share a lobby, and the office tower is actually cantilevered over to the top of the theater.

The theater is already scheduled to a full season of touring Broadway shows, including Beautiful, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Kinky Boots, Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia, The Lion King, and Book of Mormon.

The downtown location provides lots of hotel and restaurant options for theater-goers.  The Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City is closet to the theater, located just down the street, but there are many other hotels located within easy walking distance, including the Hilton Salt Lake City Center, Marriott Downtown at City Creek, and the Holiday Inn Express Salt Lake City Downtown. Restaurants in the vicinity of the theater include Michelangelo’s On Main, Lamb’s Grill, Siegreid’s Delicatessen, Blue Iguana, Benihana, Naked Fish Japanese Bistro, and Caffe Molise.
