Little Caesars Arena to Open in Downtown Detroit This Year
The new Little Caesars Arena is coming to downtown Detroit this fall and it promises to be a very active venue. The arena will be the home of the Detroit Red Wings NHL team and the Detroit Pistons NBA team. Plus, concert bookings for the new arena have been reported to already be in the works. It has also been announced that first and second round games of the 2018 NCCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament will be held at the arena.
The arena has seating capacity for 20,000 in its ice hockey configuration and 21,000 for basketball games.
Little Caesars Arena is being constructed as part of The Detroit District, a 50 block downtown mixed use area for residences, businesses, restaurants, bars, parks, and event venues. The goal is to connect Downtown and Midtown Detroit into one large walk-able area. In addition to the new arena, the district includes Comerica Park (Detroit Tigers) and Ford Field (Detroit Lions). The Fox Theater is also located in the district.
There are plenty of hotels near the new Little Caesars Arena, with the Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney, MGM Grand Detroit, and Hilton Garden Inn Detroit Downtown being some of the closest. Most of the hotels are located between the stadiums and the river.
