Chicago’s Morton Salt Building Becomes The Salt Shed Music Venue
The interior spaces aren’t ready for use yet but The Salt Shed, a repurposing of the old Morton Salt Building in Chicago, has a full lineup of summer concerts scheduled for their outdoor space.
The original structure, constructed in the 1920s, is being revamped into a modern live music venue while retaining much of the character from the building’s industrial past.
The Salt Shed is located along the Chicago River across from Goose Island (1357 N Elston Ave) and the four acre site provides ample room for outdoor events. The outdoor portion of the venue opened earlier this month. The indoor space is expected to open in early 2023.
Upcoming summer concerts at the Salt Shed include MT Joy with Wilderado, Jora Smith, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit with Shemekia Copeland, and Death Cab for Cutie.
Hyatt Place Chicago/Wicker Park is located about a half mile from The Salt Shed, providing a good nearby hotel option. See our list of other hotels near The Salt Shed.
