Auditorium Theatre in Chicago Celebrates 125 Years

The Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois first opened in 1889  with modern technology for its time (including electric lighting and air conditioning). The theater was designed by the architectural firm of Adler and Sullivan and features details such as gold-leafed arches, mosaics and murals.

The Auditorium is known internationally as a beautiful venue with excellent acoustics.

A gala event will be held on December 9th (exactly 125 years after the original opening) to celebrate the venue’s 125th anniversary.  The event will feature Patti LuPone, John Mahoney, members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Brass, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Apollo Chorus, dancers from the Joffrey Ballet and Alvin Alley American Dance Theater, and music from a rock band made up of legendary Chicagoans. The all-star rock band is composed of Chicago musicians Jim Peterik (Ides of March and Survivor) on guitar and vocals, Barbara Unger-Wertico (The Buckinghams and Pat Metheny Secret Story Band) on keyboard, Richard Patterson (Miles Davis and Michael McDonald) on bass and Paul Wertico (Pat Metheny Group and Larry Coryell Power Trio) on drums.

Here’s a good article about the theater’s history and the plans for the gala event.

Tickets to the event are $35 to $125.

Goldstar has a limited number of Dress Circle/Front Balcony tickets available for $25 (regularly $75.00).
